Commission Painted Models FAQs
Can I purchase different variants of a model?
Some models come in different variations (alternative outfits, bases, etc.). Your base purchase includes a single variant of your choice. Additional variants can be purchased separately.
Are interchangeable parts (switch-outs) included?
Many designs feature interchangeable parts, such as alternative heads (with/without helmets, different expressions) or accessories (weapons, etc.). One additional swap-out part is included for free! Please communicate your selections in the order notes at checkout or via email immediately after placing your order. Any additional parts beyond the free inclusion can be purchased separately.
How long will it take to complete my painted model?
An estimated lead time for your painted model will be provided upon order placement. You will be given a target week for completion, and I will personally reach out to you when I begin painting your piece so you know it's on the desk!
Can I request a custom paint job or specific colors?
Yes! You are highly encouraged to share specific reference photos or request custom color schemes. This is a model personalized for YOU, and I will work closely with you to bring your piece to life exactly how you envision it.
How do you pack the models to ensure safe shipping?
Model pieces are individually wrapped and packed tightly in crush-proof boxes to prevent damage. This proven packing method ensures safe transit for both domestic and international orders. Furthermore, all models are shipped fully insured to protect us both from any unforeseen carrier issues.
Will I need to assemble the model when it arrives?
Painted models are shipped in subassemblies to ensure safe handling during transit and to minimize the assembly required upon receipt. Large-scale models are magnetized to make this process effortless. Where magnets cannot be installed, standard super glue (CA glue) will be required to permanently assemble the pieces.
Can I request a custom design?
Yes! Fill out the contact form to get started. Send specific details including character, theme, scene concepts, and any other pertinent details. I will bring in a designer to do the design work then paint your masterpiece!
DIY Kit FAQs
Are the DIY Kit models washed and cured before shipping?
Yes! Every piece is thoroughly washed in isopropyl alcohol and fully cured under UV light before it leaves our shop. It is completely safe to handle straight out of the box.
Why are there tiny bumps or pits on my model?
Because these are 3D printed using liquid resin, they require temporary "supports" during the printing process. While we carefully remove these supports before shipping, tiny marks, dimples, or bumps may remain. These are easily removed with light sanding or a hobby knife, which is a standard part of model preparation. Some small or delicate parts may have the supports completely intact for safe shipping.
How do I prep the model for painting?
We recommend a quick wash in warm, soapy water with an old toothbrush to remove any lingering residue or finger oils. Once dry, you can use a hobby knife, fine-grit sandpaper, or sanding sponges to smooth out any support marks. Wash again after sanding to remove any sanding dust. Be sure to where the proper mask to prevent inhaling resin dust when sanding.
What kind of glue should I use for assembly?
You must use Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate or CA glue). Standard plastic cement (like Tamiya Extra Thin) chemically melts polystyrene plastic to bond it, but it will have absolutely no effect on 3D printed resin. Using a CA glue accelerator/kicker can also help speed up the bonding process.
Do I need to use primer before painting?
Yes. Acrylic paints will not adhere well to bare resin. We highly recommend using a high-quality spray primer (rattle can or airbrush) before applying your base coats.
Is 3D printed resin safe to handle?
Yes, once the resin is fully cured (which we do before shipping), it is completely safe to touch. If you notice any residue on the model, it is cured. Remove any tackiness by wiping with isopropyl alcohol.
Do I need to wear a mask when sanding?
Yes. Like any fine particulate matter (wood, plastic, or fiberglass), cured resin dust is not good for your lungs. Always wear a particulate mask (like an N95) and sand in a well-ventilated area. Wet-sanding is a great technique to keep dust from going airborne.
What if a piece arrives broken?
3D printed resin allows for incredibly high detail, but it can be brittle. We package our models with extreme care, but accidents during transit can happen. If your model arrives damaged, please send us an email with a photo within 48 hours of delivery, and we will happily send a replacement part.
Can I request a custom scale or size?
Yes! If you need a miniature scaled up for a display piece or scaled down for a specific tabletop game, please contact us before ordering. We can usually adjust the scale, though prices will vary based on the amount of resin required.
